A step-by-step guide to what actually happens, and why you should never pay someone to do this. August 14, 2026 ![Delete your Google Business Profile: the free way](https://flynk.me/images/content/unternehmensprofil-loeschen.webp) There are services charging $219 and more to delete a Google Business Profile. They click through the exact steps you are about to do yourself. Free, in about ten minutes. Before you start, it helps to know what "delete" actually means at Google. Because often it is not what you really want. Deleting is not disappearing ---------------------------- Your Business Profile and the listing on Google Maps are two different things. Deleting the profile removes your management and your content: photos, posts, your replies to reviews. The place itself can stay visible on Maps as an unmanaged listing. Google shows publicly known places even without an owner. So first, ask yourself what you actually want to achieve. Case 1: The business no longer exists ------------------------------------- Do not delete the profile. Mark it as **permanently closed** instead, so customers see it right away instead of standing in front of a locked door. You find the option in your profile settings under "Mark business as closed". For a business that shut down, this is almost always the right choice. Case 2: You are switching agencies or managers ---------------------------------------------- Again: do not delete. Deleting wipes all your reviews for good, and reviews are worth real money. Transfer ownership instead: open your profile management, go to "Business Profile settings", then "People and access". Add the new owner there, then remove the old one. Reviews, photos and ranking stay intact. Case 3: You really want the profile gone ---------------------------------------- Here is how: 1. **Sign in** with the Google account that manages the profile. Fastest route: search Google for your own business name, the management panel appears right above the results. 2. Open the **three-dot menu** and choose "Business Profile settings". 3. Click **"Remove Business Profile"**, then "Remove profile content and managers". 4. Read the warning and **confirm**. Your content is gone after that. Google hides the profile quickly; the final deletion of the data takes a few weeks. Important: reviews, photos and posts do not come back. Taking screenshots before you delete costs nothing and has saved more than one business owner. If the listing still shows up ----------------------------- If the place lingers on Maps as an orphaned listing even though the business is gone, open it in Google Maps, choose "Suggest an edit" and report it as closed or non-existent. Google reviews the report and usually removes the listing within days. The cost: nothing ----------------- Every step above is free. Paid deletion services have no special access to Google, they fill in the same forms. Paying only makes sense in messy legal cases, for example when someone else controls your profile and refuses to hand it over. For the normal case, this guide is all you need. Or: keep it and have it maintained ---------------------------------- Many owners want to delete their profile because maintaining it is annoying: outdated hours, unanswered reviews, old photos.
