August 8, 2026 ![Get your website on Google: how to actually show up](https://flynk.me/images/content/website-anmelden.webp) The new website is live, but Google does not show it. So you go looking for the place to "register your site with Google", and here is the first surprise: there is no classic registration form. Google finds websites on its own. But you can speed it up considerably, and for a new site you should. Here is how. First check: does Google know your site already? ------------------------------------------------ Type `site:your-domain.com` into Google, with your real address. If your pages appear, the site is in the index, and your problem is not registration but ranking. More on that below. If nothing appears, the site is not indexed yet. On to step 1. Step 1: Set up Google Search Console ------------------------------------ Search Console is Google's free tool for website owners, and your direct line to Google. Go to [search.google.com/search-console](https://search.google.com/search-console), sign in with a Google account and add your domain. Google wants a one-time confirmation that the site is yours, usually via a DNS entry or a file on the server. If an agency runs your website, they set this up in minutes, ask for it actively. Step 2: Submit your sitemap --------------------------- A sitemap is a file listing all pages of your website, usually found at `your-domain.com/sitemap.xml`. Modern websites generate it automatically. In Search Console, enter that address under "Sitemaps". Now Google knows which pages exist and crawls them faster. Step 3: Nudge important pages individually ------------------------------------------ For single pages there is the URL inspection tool in Search Console: enter the address, click "Request indexing". Worth doing for your homepage and new pages. Then comes waiting: a few days to a few weeks is normal for new websites. Google makes no speed promises. If the site still does not show up ---------------------------------- The most common blockers, check in this order: - **A leftover noindex**: many websites go live with a setting that locks Google out, a leftover from development. The URL inspection in Search Console shows it. - **The site is very new**: without a single link from outside, it takes long. One directory entry, one link from your [Google Business Profile](/en/blog/set-up-google-business-profile), and Google finds the way in. - **Too little content**: a page with three sentences and a logo gives Google no reason to show it. Every important page needs real text: what you offer, where, for whom. Indexed is not page one ----------------------- The second surprise for many: indexed only means Google knows the page. Appearing on page one for "hairdresser Springfield" is its own game with its own rules: content matching what people actually search, a well-kept Business Profile, patience. For local searches, the Business Profile is even the faster lever: it can appear on the map within days, while the website builds its ranking over months. The two work best together. Registering is the start, staying at it is the job -------------------------------------------------- Set up Search Console, submit the sitemap, clear the blockers: that is the "registration", done in an afternoon. Being found after that is a matter of content and upkeep.
