Optimize your Google Business Profile: the checklist
======================================================

From an existing profile into the top 3 on the map: categories, photos, reviews and the signals Google actually weighs. With a monthly routine.

![Optimize your Google Business Profile: the checklist](https://flynk.me/images/content/profil-optimieren.webp) Your Business Profile exists, but competitors sit above you on the map? The difference is rarely the age of the profile and almost always the upkeep.

Google ranks the map by three factors: distance, relevance and prominence. You cannot move your shop, but you can do plenty about the other two.

1. Check your categories
------------------------

The primary category decides which searches you appear in. Check that yours is the most precise one available: "Cosmetics studio" beats "Beauty salon" if cosmetics is what you mainly do.

Add fitting secondary categories for your other services, but only real ones. Categories you do not serve dilute your profile.

2. Fill in every field
----------------------

Sounds trivial, decides searches: description, services with prices, attributes (wheelchair accessible, outdoor seating, card payment), hours including holidays.

Google measurably rewards complete profiles. And customers compare: choosing between two businesses, they pick the one with prices and current information.

3. Photos as a steady drip, not a sprint
----------------------------------------

Twenty photos at setup and then nothing for two years: that is what most profiles look like. Better is a steady drip, one new picture every two to four weeks.

Show current work, the team, seasonal things. Phone quality is fine, real is what matters. Profiles with fresh photos get noticeably more views and route requests.

4. Reviews: momentum beats volume
---------------------------------

Eighty reviews from 2022 look weaker than thirty from recent months. Google and customers both notice regularity.

Build a routine: after every job well done, ask for a review via link, a QR code at the till or in the invoice email. And answer every review, the good ones too, with two personal sentences. For unfair ones, see [how to get a review removed](/en/blog/remove-google-review).

5. Use posts
------------

Posts let you publish offers, new services or events straight into your profile. Hardly any small business does it, yet one post takes five minutes a month and tells Google: this place is alive.

6. Website and profile must match
---------------------------------

Google cross-checks your details. Name, address and phone number should be written identically on the profile, the website and socials, down to the spelling of the street.

Also link from your website to your profile and back. They support each other in the rankings.

7. Once a month: the check-up
-----------------------------

Users and Google itself can change your details without asking. Check monthly: are hours, category and contact details still right? Any new questions in the Q&A section you should answer?

Then a look at the profile's insights: which search terms bring you into the results, how many calls and routes this month? That is how you see whether the work is paying off.

The routine in numbers
----------------------

Half an hour per month is enough: check the details, upload a photo, answer reviews, publish one post. Keep that up for six months and you overtake most competitors, because most do nothing at all.

If that half hour never actually happens in your week, you know your daily grind: that is exactly what FLYNK is for. We keep profile, website and socials current together, you say changes once. The profile basics are in the [full guide](/en/blog/google-business-profile-guide).

### You're Paying for a Site That Works, Not One That Just Exists

Most website designers for small business hand over a site that looks finished and goes quiet. One client page had a 2.7 percent quote completion rate and nobody could see it. Then it was rebuilt: 40.5 percent. The lesson is not the rebuild.

### Sunny HQ vs FLYNK: Two Ways to Get a Small Business Website

A fair comparison. Sunny HQ sells a well-kept WordPress site from $997 plus $199 a month. FLYNK sells the site plus the instrument panel at $649 a month, $0 setup. Real prices, real client data, and one honest case where Sunny HQ is the better pick.

Affordable small business website design leaves out the same four things as the expensive kind: lead source, a way to request changes, monitoring and ownership. Here is what each gap costs you.
